Tablets in the classroom

Schools and education foundations across Pakistan are bringing tablets and interactive screens into classrooms. Done well, a device programme gives every student access to digital learning. Done badly, it leaves a cupboard full of devices that nobody uses. Here is what makes the difference.

Start with how teachers will teach

The best programmes begin with lessons, not hardware. Decide what students should do with a device: read digital textbooks, practise maths and languages with apps, record assignments, or take short assessments. Then choose devices that fit those tasks. A class that mainly reads and practises needs reliable tablets with good battery life; a class that collaborates around one lesson benefits more from an interactive screen.

Choosing the right tablet

  • Performance: a modern processor with enough memory, such as 8GB RAM and 256GB storage, keeps apps smooth for years.
  • Durability: a strong frame and a protective case matter more than thinness in a classroom.
  • Battery: the device should last a full school day on one charge.
  • Android version: newer versions get security updates and app support for longer.

Branding and setup

Many schools order tablets with their own logo on the device and boot screen, and with apps and content pre-installed before delivery. Branding builds pride and makes devices easy to identify; pre-configuration means teachers can start on day one instead of spending weeks on setup.

Interactive screens for the whole class

A 75" or 86" interactive screen replaces the whiteboard and projector in one step. Teachers can write over lessons, play video in 4K, and share a student's tablet screen wirelessly with the whole class. Screens with multi-touch let several students work on the board at once.

Management and support

Plan how devices will be managed: who installs apps, how content is updated, and how lost or broken devices are handled. Agree on warranty, spare parts and a local support contact before the programme starts, so a broken screen is fixed in days rather than months.
